Food for Thought: Warranties for Remanufactured Furniture

In this month’s issue of Food for Thought we address the importance of extended warranties on the furniture you purchase for resale.

The Holy Grail in the circular economy is re-using items that still have a useful life, whether from your own inventory or purchasing previously owned furniture offered for re-sale. But can you expect these items to last? Or will your efforts to avoid “buying new” simply result in “buying again” when a purchased item fails to function properly?   Not all furniture resellers provide extended warranties for re-manufactured or furniture “as is.” We believe furniture for resale should come with an independent warranty, equivalent to the manufacturers’ warranties, to guarantee your purchases for a reasonable time.

At TFX we took a hard look at the customs and practices of original manufacturers’ warranty policies and crafted a policy we would stand behind to provide our customers with reasonable guarantees for extended life of their purchases. Once an item has been refurbished and brought back to “as new” standards by our in-house remanufacturing experts we guarantee our remanufactured items for three years!

What's the catch? Simply put, you can trust that your furniture will be fully functional and guaranteed for its new life in your leased spaces. You can expect your chair hydraulics to function seamlessly, your sit-stand desk to adjust smoothly from top to bottom, and your file cabinet drawers to close securely and align perfectly with the base, to name a few.

Does that sound reasonable? Other vendors might consider it crazy, but here at TFX, we believe it's simply what you should expect. Our track record speaks for itself, as we rarely need to fulfill those guarantees. Our standards for remanufacturing are exceptionally high, ensuring that "as new" means not just a fresh surface or new upholstery, but also full functionality.

In the circular economy avoiding the “white-box” syndrome of buying new means any furniture item you can acquire through resale is contributing to the greater sustainability good.
